The Thameside Nature Park

The Thameside Discovery Nature Park was created on land that was once a landfill site. Then landfill site closed in 2011 and the then operators, Cory, began to lease the land to the Essex Wildlife Trust. The Essex Wildlife Trust had the 'Nature Discovery Centre' built with grants from Cory, DP World, Intergen, Thames Gateway Parklands, Essex County Council, The Homes & Communities Agency, The Hew Watt Foundations and a public appeal to include a cafe, shop, meeting rooms for education and training and rooftop views over the river.

Some of the land is still being utilised by Cory (now Enovert) to cover the landfill with enough soil to allow planting and landscaping. When complete the site will extend to 845 acres, it will be tyhe largest Essex Wildlife Trust in the county.

Access is via Mucking Wharf Road, off Walton Hall Lane through the historic village of Mucking, but there are plans for a new entrance near the railway crossing to be opened at some time in the future.

The site and the Nature Discovery Centre is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust. Funds granted by Cory to the Mucking Charitable Trust are utilised for the maintenance and management of the outside space.
