Following meetings between local councillors and the new Council Leader the campaign led by local residents to restore the bus service that was cut earlier in the year has succeeded and a local bus service will re-start on 2nd September.

Local councillor Fraser Massey has praised Emma, Carol & Kirstie who led the campaign and refused to let the issue drop. "They should be very proud of what they've achieved" he said.

The new bus service will be route 375 and will connect East & West Tilbury, Linford, Horndon on the Hill, Chadwell, Stanford and Grays Town Centre. It will run from Mondays to Saturdays. The VECTARE buses will run every 2 hours between 7.00 AM and 6.45 PM and there'll be a flat fare of £2 with all concessionary passes accepted.

The service will be funded from the Government's Bus Service Improvement Programme. These funds had been available before but the old Council decided that all rural services were not sustainable and all had to go.

The new service will not connect Orsett or Basildon Hospitals but there's a connection to both these hospitals form Stanford or Grays.

WELCOM FORUM AGM

Defibrillators

there's one near you!

Thanks to excellent work by local residents Dave Bowling, and Charlotte & Team Katie, there are now Defibrillators that can be accessed all around the area. They are situated at Linford Village Hall, East Tilbury Post office, outside Yorks butchers, at East Tilbury Medical Centre in Coronation Avenue, at Coalhouse Fort, outside the Ship pub, and at the Primary School. Soon there'll be one at West Tilbury Village Hall.

What to do If you are with someone who is having chest pains and/or a suspected heart attack.

Dial 999, the operator will tell you where the nearest defibrillator is and give you a code. Use this code to open the box and access the defibrillator. Instructions for its use are with the machine - its very straightforward.

An ambulance will be on its way, but using the defibrillator could save someone's life!

Published by the WELCOM COMMUNITY FORUM which is an independent non political voluntary group made up of representatives from the local community including residents, schools, local businesses, voluntary, community and faith groups. The WELCOM Forum covers the areas of East & West Tilbury and Linford – all of the Council’s East Tilbury Ward.

We are an entirely voluntary group, we rely on donations and fund raising events, and with this money we can fund small scale initiatives that help the local community in some way.

Our meetings are usually held on the last Thursday of each month at Linford Methodist Church. There are no elections to the forum, anyone can come along to the meetings, it’s just a group of people from all walks of life and every part of the area who have the interests of the community at heart. The monthly meetings are also regularly attended by local councillors, the police and other agencies, and we quite often have guest speakers from the Council and other local organisations. This is a two way conversation, local people can raise issues and concerns and the agencies can involve forums in consultation and information sharing.

You can see minutes of all our previous meetings on the Minutes page.
